To manufacture a fully automated web handling system capable of converting rolled stock into stacked sheets.

Challenges Presented:

• The material to be processed was thick, dense, rough, and subject to enormous process variations.
• The machine had to include an accumulator system so that the sheeting operation would not stop for roll loading.
• Due to material idiosyncrasies, cut sheets had to be lifted and not slid over previously stacked sheets.
• The stacking tolerances for the cut sheets were very stringent due to international crating requirements.

MME’s Custom Solutions: MME designed and built:

• a fully integrated converting machine that unrolled non-woven
material at one end,
• a machine that could accumulate enough material in order to accommodate roll change-over times
• a machine that pulled the web through a slitting station while measuring exact lengths, and then carried flat sheets of stock over a stacking station.

Functional & Economic Benefits to Customer:

The increased capabilities and functional processes allowed the customer to meet the production needs of its foreign customers for the first time in its history.
